Camp Policies

Camp Arrowhead Policies                 Revised 2.17.17

The following policy applies to Camp Arrowhead.  Please note that this policy does not and cannot cover everything that could happen at camp.   Staff has the training and understanding to make appropriate decisions as new issues arise.  Staff reserve the right to deem a camper ineligible for camp, not for exclusion, but for safety and providing appropriate services to each camper.

Medical and Treatment

Every camper who has a G-tube must be sent in with an extra G-tube and appropriate supplies.

In order to accommodate all campers, we request that feedings be limited to no more than 3 per day.  This excludes water bolus, as needed, on hot days.

We cannot accept an immunization exemption for any reason.

Every camper that attends Camp Arrowhead must provide a reachable phone number on the Camp Form, such that staff can contact someone at any given time during the hours the program is running.

The program does not have the facilities to store oxygen.

If a camper requires oxygen delivery throughout the day or as a back-up (such as a camper having a trach), the camper must come with a nurse who can provide that service.

A detailed feeding protocol must be completed for every camper needing feeding assistance prior to the camper attending camp and will be mailed to you once the application process has been completed.  The form MUST be completed in full and returned by June 1, 2017.  Camp Arrowhead reserves the right to refuse admission to any camper who does not meet the requirements in this policy.

General

Camp Arrowhead runs from 9:00am-3:00pm

Camp Arrowhead does not have extended day options therefore, after their 1st late pick up, $1 will be charged to each client for every 1 minute they are late picking children up starting at 3:15PM.

Campers must come with everything they need for the camp day.  Camp Arrowhead does not provide diapers or lunches. Please refer to our “what to pack” list for items that should be brought daily.

Each camper will be matched up with one volunteer to work with throughout that week.  The volunteer will change week to week.

If the camper is coming with an aide, the aide will work with the volunteer and the camper.  The aide knows the camper and the volunteer knows the camp. Together they can work to make sure the camper enjoys camp.

*Any aide attending with a camper must come to the Natick Recreation and Parks Department at least 3 weeks before their first day on site to fill out a CORI and SORI form as well as attend a small training at Camp Arrowhead.

Any Aide attending with a camper will handle all behavioral issues that arise with that particular camper.

Traffic

Arrival– Campers will wait outside of the building with their driver until 9:00am when the doors open.

Pick-up- Please do not block the driveway.  Camp Arrowhead has a bus that will need access to get in and out of the driveway throughout the time period of buses lining up. Buses & Cars will be allowed down the driveway around 2:50pm  when a staff signals to start lining up.

When campers are being picked up at the end of the camp day, volunteers and staff wait at the building with the campers.  Vehicles enter the area where two specific staff, assigned daily by the Director, will identify which camper goes into each vehicle or car.  They are then escorted to each vehicle and signed out by the volunteer with designated attendance staff.

If camper is being picked up by someone different from who dropped them off, please send in a note, or call with verbal permission.

In the interest of Safety, all campers are required to have a completed pick up form.  Any person other than a parent will require prior notification to camp office and a photo ID prior to release of camper.

Swimming

We swim everyday weather permitting. If a camper arrives without appropriate swimwear (e.g., bathing suit/swimmie diaper), the camper will not swim that day. Please keep in mind the camper will be missing out on around 2 hours of camp activity.

As part of the registration process, participant’s parents or guardians provide information about the participants swimming ability. If a participant or associated parent/guardian expresses interest in being a deep water swimmer, then the participant will be swim tested by the trained staff member on site.  If the camper is new, this will happen prior to day camp.

Each volunteer paired one-on-one with a camper must be within one foot of the camper at all times in the water.

All participants that do not pass or do not take the swim test are identified as non swimmers and will not be allowed outside the non swimmer area.  Any parent/guardian that would like their participant to use a flotation device must be United States Coast Guard Certified type (I, II, or III) device and will be fit tested by our staff.

Anyone looking to use a different floatation aide needs to provide a written document stating how to fit and use the device as well as accompanying documentation.

A camper in a flotation device cannot go outside designated non swim area.

Residential

Day Camp and Residential Camp are two separate entities of Camp Arrowhead. Certain supports (to be determined by the staff admin team) that are provided at Day Camp may not be provided in the Residential model.
